I have taken these Brown and Sharpe spindles apart. There are spring loaded cotton wicks top and bottom. Reverse rotation should not matter. Jogging obviously is an attempt to distribute the oil a little bit before running full speed. As mentioned before, a VFD is sweet for ramping up the speed. Also nice to vary the wheel characteristics.

I am looking for information on buying a spindle motor for the grinder as opposed to using the large motor in the base to run both the spindle and table. A 1 hp motor is recommended for the spindle motor. A 1/6 hp motor is all that is recommended to run just the table. I should be able to find the 1/6 hp motor without a problem.
